Well, you found the page that will tell you all that I know about a great game called QUAKE. This game was, I believe, the first first-person action game that used 3d models instead of sprites, like Doom 2 and Duke Nukem 3d. With new 3d models, you are able to see every side of your enemy's and objects throughout the game. The game's plot goes something like this.

An evil blood-sucker, and his dog! How cute!

Humans discover the power to travel interdimensionally. There was a disturbance discovered in the fabric of space and through a portal came an army of disfigured humanoids that were wired to kill. Every time they kill a person they get an extremely pleasurable sensation, so killing off the human race would be almost like the best sexual episode ever. So anyway, instead of running and hiding, you make your way through the abandoned station killing off the killer aliens. You find the portal leading to their world and go after their master that controls the fate of your world, QUAKE.

It's just a Double-Barrelled Shot gun! C'mon get up!

So basically, you go through just like the other shoot-em-up games and kill everything you see until you win. However, with all of the great game options and controls and such, mixed with great multi-player support, you have a great game. Also, it can be modified to become just about any kind of game that you want it to be. There are a lot of quake mods out there and I discuss a few of them elsewhere on this site. Anyway, after you play the game single player and discover you have "skills" then it is time to try the multi-player experiences that make QUAKE one of the greatest games ever. And even better, if you have the Internet, multi-player action is free, unlike some other games that you have to pay to play on the net.

Bad guy peices EVERYWHERE!

The game also supports 3DFX cards so you can really enhance the look of the game even more than it already is. All of the pictures on this page were taken in 640 x 480 mode with no hardware support. It is the raw game.

The shareware version of the game can be downloaded from www.idsoftware.com or you can go out and pay a few dollars for the full version. It really is only like $20.

So, after you beat the game without any help, hints, or cheats, then have a look on my codes page to let you play around in the game.

It's just a flesh wound you guys!

There are a few little tricks and things that you might want to know right now though. The first is that you really need to learn how to use the console. The console is accessed by pressing the ~ key. It will drop a prompt screen on the top half of the screen that let's you enter commands and such. The next tip is one of the commands that you can enter there, bind. It's syntax goes like this:

Bind {keyname} "{special command}"

And then press enter. Note: Do NOT type the {}.

It is pretty simple to figure out key names. The alphabet is just the alphabet. The Enter or Return key is Enter. Tab is tab. The arrow keys are uparrow, rightarrow, leftarrow, downarrow. And the mouse buttons are mouse1, mouse2, and so on. Easy huh. The special command is what the game will do for you. Like jumping (+jump), strafing right (+moveright) and attacking (+attack). There are many other commands too. Basically, when you bind a key do a command, and then press the key, the command is read and acted upon the way it should be. When you bind a key to something like "say: You are one pathetic loser!" then the actual command is say: and it will display "You are on pathetic loser!" on the top of the screen. So that is the bind command. Like I said, there are many more but I'll let you figure the rest of them out. Hint: Read the *.cfg files to learn more of the commands. And read the help files to learn how to play the game better.

This is one of the first enemies, a Rottwheiler.
